Scindia supports may face the heat into PDS rice scam in Madhya Pradesh
The issue of supplying poor quality of rice in Balaghat and Mandla districts of Madhya Pradesh has given a much needed issue to the Congress before the prestigious by-elections. Even though Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had said the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) would investigate the matter, former Chief Minister Kamal Nath osought a CBI probe into this matter.
Sources claimed that Congress became hyperactive on this issue because they firmly believes that Jyotiraditya Scindia supporters, Pradyumn Singh and Govind Singh Rajput, who held the portfolio of Food and Civil Supplies department are likely to be held accountable for gross violation. Both these leaders deserted Congress and joined BJP along with Scindia few months back.
In a tweet, Nath said the "rice scam" was not confined to Balaghat and Mandla districts but to several other places and was connected to "higher-ups".
"It should be probed by the CBI and the ambit of inquiry should cover districts beyond two districts. Efforts are on to hush-up the scam," Nath stated. Two days ago, MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had said the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) would investigate supply of poor quality rice in Balaghat and Mandla.
The state government had, on September 2, terminated the services of two quality controllers (of Food and Civil Supplies Corporation FCI) in Balaghat and Mandla and had ordered filing of FIR against millers involved.
