Asian School Hockey Championship in Bhopal from April 3
Bhopal. The Fifth Asian School Hockey Championship will be held in Bhopal from April 3. Around 200 players of eight countries and 75 office-bearers will participate in the championship. Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, UAE, Bangladesh and China have given approval for the championship. Consent is being taken from South Korea, Fiji and Nepal to join the tournament. A meeting was held for preparations for the championship under chairmanship of secretary, school education, Dipti Gaud Mukharjee. General Secretary, School Games Federation of India Rajesh Mishra was present in the meeting.
Apart from central government, joint committee of different departments has been formed for the championship. All the committees will help in holding of the event. Efforts would be made so that more and more children could watch the championship. Commissioner, public instructions, Neeraj Dubey informed that opening ceremony of the Championship will be held in Major Dhyanchand Hockey Stadium, located Link No 1 of Bhopal on April 3. Cultural programmes focusing on diverse culture of India will be held in the ceremony. Vice-president of School Games Federation of India Alok Khare informed that after opening ceremony, all tournaments will be held in floodlight in Aishbagh stadium. Twenty matches will be held in the championship. Valedictory function will be held on April 11 in Aishbagh Hockey Stadium. Office-bearers of Asian Hockey Federation and School Federation of India will take part in it.
Director, public instructions, Anju Singh Bhadoriya informed that this is pride for Madhya Pradesh that international championship is being organised here for school children. She discussed regarding responsibility to sports and youth welfare department, Municipal Corporation, Bhopal, District Administration, Tourism Development Corporation. It was informed that all matches of the championship will be conducted in presence of international referees.
