“Cotton Trailblazers: The Organic cotton revolution”
Bhopal. Madhya Pradesh holds an important place in the country in production of organic cotton. Keeping this in view, a one day workshop ‘Cotton Trailblazers: The organic cotton revolution’ is being organized in the Swarna Jayanti Sabhagar of the R.C.V.P. Noronha Academy of Administration at 9.00 a.m. on May 8. The workshop will be inaugurated by the Minister for Farmers Welfare and Agriculture Development Gaurishankar Bisen. The workshop is being organised jointly by the Farmer Welfare and Agriculture Development Department and C&A Foundation. The Principal Secretary Farmer Welfare Dr. Rajesh Rajora has informed that Madhya Pradesh produces one quarter of the world’s organic cotton.
Progressive cotton producing farmers, Agriculture Experts of Agriculture Universities of the country will also take part in the workshop. The Principal Secretary Dr. Rajesh Rajora will deliver lecture in context to cotton production in Madhya Pradesh. Special address of the Minister Gaurishankar Bisen will be held in the inaugural session. Bisen will also honour progressive farmers in the inaugural session. C.E.O. of Pratibha Syntex Shreyaskar Chowdhary will address on the status of cotton mills in the state.
Addresses of subject experts will take place in three sessions during the workshop. Discussions chiefly on the subject ‘Building a resilient organic sector: A collaborative industry approach besides improving farmers livelihood’ will take place in the first session. The Director Farmer Welfare Mohanlal, Apoorva Oza of the Aga Khan Rural Programme (India), Vice President Avinash Karmakar of Pratibha Syntex Ltd., C.E.O. of CottonConnect Alison Ward, Lead Farmer Sushila Bai and Managing Director of Textile Exchange and Lead Farmer of U.S.A. Sushri La Rhea Pepper will address the first session.
In the second session, deliberations on ‘A collaborative industry approach’ will take place. Managing Director of Mandi Board Faiz Ahmed Kidwai, Material Integrity Specialist, H&M- Meral Krebbers, Senior Sustainability Manager- (Product and Brand)-Tchibo - Sabrina Mueller and Director Rohit Doshi of Mahima Fibres Pvt. Ltd. will express their views in this session.
Similarly, in the third session on ‘Support Systems in Public Institutions’, addresses of Vice Chancellor Dr. S. K. Rao of Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Krishi Vishwavidlaya –Gwalior, Vice Chancellor of Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Krsihi Vidyapeeth, Parbani of Maharashtra Dr. B. Venkateshwarlu and Dr. Tarun Bajaj of Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry will take place. Recommendations will be presented before the state government after deliberations in all the 3 sessions.
An exhibition on the subject ‘Organic Cotton Production in Madhya Pradesh and Scope’ is also being organized on this occasion.
