Dual murder case: Harda SP Prembabu Sharma transferred to Bhopal

Bhopal: The state home department on Friday issued an order, transferring the superintendent of police of Harda, Prembabu Sharma to police headquarters in Bhopal.

The home department action comes after strong protests by Harda residents and Bhopal lawyers who alleged police negligence leading to murder of lawyer Naveen Agrawal and his brother Sudhir.

The kin of Agrawal brothers, who bodies were found in Seoni Malwa of Hoshangabad had refused to take possession of the bodies until action was initiated on negligent police officials.

The chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had on Thursday night assured the family of action. On Friday the home minister Babulal Gaur held consultations with the director general of police Surendra Sinh on the issue, following which the decision to transfer Sharma was taken, sources said.

Aditya Pratap Singh, a 2011 batch IPS officer, till now posted as commandant of 13th battalion of Special Armed Forces (SAF) in Gwalior, has been made the new Harda SP.

The Agrawal brothers, who had gone to Mohanpur in Harda to claim disputed land, were killed by Jagdish Rajput, his son Shakti Singh and their henchmen. Five associates of Agrawals were beaten up badly and had reported the assault and abduction of the brothers to police.

Even before going to meet the Rajputs, the Agrawals had informed the Sirali police about the meeting. However no action was taken, the family has alleged.

They alleged that despite giving prior information to police about meeting of deceased with accused and the associated of the brothers giving information about their abduction of May 23 itself, police failed to provide any protection or expedite investigation. The bodies were recovered after three days.

When controversy erupted, in-charge of Sirali police station VS Ghuraiya was suspended on May 25, but the protestors were demanding action on SP and sub-divisional officer of police.
