High Court orders CBI inquiry into killing of journalist, his family

The High Court has ordered an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the murder of journalist Chandrika Rai and his family. The crime had taken place in the year 2012.
The police had arrested a domestic help for the murders but there was suspicion that the probe was not fair. It was suspicious that just a lone man could kill four persons with such ferocity in their own house. Rai, his wife, his 19-year-old son and 17-year-old daughter, were killed in their house in Umaria.
Rai was consistently writing against illegal coal mining in the region. The special task force (STF) had conducted inquiry in this case. Now a double bench of the Jabalpur High Court has ordered CBI inquiry and has directed that the case diary and relevant documents should be given to CBI.
