Madhya Pradesh awarded for efforts in betterment of mother-child
Delhi. The Government of India has given three National Level Awards to Madhya Pradesh. The awards have been given for the highest decline in maternal mortality rate, reach to the highest number of pregnant women in the Prime Minister Safe Motherhood Campaign and number of voluntary service providers in the campaign. For exemplary voluntary service, private doctor of the state Dr Madhuri Chandra and for continuity in services Dr Alka Agrawal and Dr Sangita Shrivastava were awarded.
Union Health and Family Welfare Minister, Jagat Prakash Nadda presented the awards to Madhya Pradesh in a programme organised in New Delhi. Public Health and Family Welfare minister Rustam Singh received awards from Madhya Pradesh. Director of NHM S Vishwanathan was also present on the occasion.
According to the latest figures released by the Government of India Sample Registration Survey (SRS) 2014-16, Madhya Pradesh has been awarded for remarkable decline of 48 numbers in maternal mortality rate in Madhya Pradesh by the government of India. Apart from this, Under the Prime Minister Safe Motherhood Campaign, Madhya Pradesh for active execution and extension of investigation before delivery and treatment services with the help of private doctors.
It is worth mentioning that constant strategic efforts are being made from the government level to provide better health facilities and services to mother and child in Madhya Pradesh. Continuous positive changes in the quality of pre-delivery services, institutional delivery and post delivery care is being seen in the state due to it.
Free medicines, material, investigations, food and transportation facility were provided to all citizens in health institutions in the state. Model maternity wing was constructed at district level and mother and child both were provided high quality health services by constructing obstetrics ICU in medical colleges. Necessary training was imparted to health service providers for enhancement in their skills. Nursing mentors were appointed for assisting ANM and staff nurse for ensuring delivery of services as per the set parameters. Thanks to efforts of the government, maternal mortality rate was declined from 221 (SRS 2011-13) per lakh to 173 (SRS 2014-16).
Prime Minister Safe Motherhood Campaign is being executed with commitment and zeal since the year 2016. On ninth of each month, a total 14 lakh 65 thousand pregnant women underwent investigation under Prime Minister Safe Motherhood Campaign in the state in which 651 volunteers rendered their services.
