#MithunChakraborty resigns from Rajya Sabha
Delhi. Actor #MithunChakraborty today resigned from the Rajya Sabha citing health issues, which prevented him for attending the last two Parliament sessions. The 66-year-old actor was nominated to the Upper House by West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). He still had nearly two years of tenure remaining in the Rajya Sabha. "He resigned from the Rajya Sabha on health grounds. We continue to share warm relationship with him and his family, and wish him speedy recovery," TMC's Derek O'Brien said.
Mithun had not been attending the Rajya Sabha for more than a year by writing leave applications and seeking leaves continuously. Mithun was invited by TMC chief Mamata Banerjee to join her party in Rajya Sabha after the party's victory in the Bengal Assembly election in 2011. Interestingly, Mithun was known in the past for his proximity to CPM leader and former Sports Minister late Subhash Chakraborty. But the actor was never active in politics. The actor was also targeted for his involvement in the Saradha chit fund scam and was summoned by Enforcement Directorate.
