MP cadre IPS Anil Dhasmana is RAW chief

New Delhi: In a day of new appointments, four new chiefs have been named to country's top intelligence and armed forces on Saturday. While Anil Dhasmana will take over the reins of the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), an organisation which looks after the external intelligence of the country, Jharkhand cadre IPS officer Rajiv Jain was appointed as the new Intelligence Bureau (IB) chief. Both will have a 2-year tenure.
Anil Dhasmana, who succeeds Rajinder Khanna, is a 1981-batch officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre. While in MP, Dhasmana earned a lot of goodwill as the SP of Indore during the 1992 post-Babri riots by dint of his managing mobs and quelling the riotous tide on the streets. He joined Raw in 1994 and has served the agency for 23 years during which he has served on important desks including Pakistan. A recipient of President's Police Medal, the 1980-batch officer Jain, who is at present serving as the Special Director in the IB, will take over on January 1 from Dineshwar Sharma completes his two-year tenure on December 31.
