Nipah: State government issues advisory

Bhopal. Taking serious note of illness and resultant deaths in Kerala in the last few days due to Nipah virus, the Department of Public Health and Family Welfare has issued an advisory in Madhya Pradesh. The state government has sent Government of India guidelines to all Chief Medical and Health officers and civil surgeons of the state for prevention and treatment of illness caused by Nipah virus.

Generally Nipah virus is a contagious disease that spreads among humans through large fruit bats and pigs. Among the general symptoms of Nipah are fever, headache, body ache, cough, difficulty in breathing, vomitting, diarrhoea, unconsciousness, drowsiness etc. People of the state have been warned to get their health examined immediately at the nearest government hospital on noticing symptoms of Nipah in areas where large fruit bats are present and in localities where people have been returning from Kerala trips.

Director, Health Services Dr. B.N. Chouhan told that generally this disease strike in limited area. He has appealed people not to panic and take preventive measures against the disease. Do not consume tadi and fruits eaten by large fruit bats. Avoid going to places where these large bats are present. Maintain distance from suspected Nipah patients.
