Stringent actions to be taken against people for provoking mob

Bhopal. In compliance to the directives issued by the Supreme Court in connection to the incidents of mob lynching, such incidents will be considered as crime in Madhya Pradesh too under the Indian Penal Code and Code of Criminal Procedure. To ensure law and order, the Police have started constant patrolling in the sensitive areas.

It may be mentioned that there is a provision for stringent punishment under the judicial process for provoking mob. The Supreme Court while hearing the case of Tahseen S. Poonawala against the Government of India and others in connection to mob lynching has issued directives to check mob lynching and violence.

S.Ps. to become Nodal Officers in districts for prevention and immediate redressal - Superintendent of Police has been appointed as Nodal Officer in each district by the Government and Administration for immediate redressal of mob lynching cases. One officer of Deputy Superintendent of Police rank of the district will assist S.P., who will be responsible to prevent mob violence/mob lynching incidents and to take immediate and efficacious action in their respective district. They will take stringent action to prevent mob lynching in order to ensure directives of the nodal officer.

Task force to maintain vigil over messages of hatred - A stringent statutory action will be ensured under the Section-153- A and other sections under the Indian Penal Code against social, print, electronic media any person or group concerned for spreading misleading message, video and rumour etc. A task force will be constituted by the nodal officers in this connection, which will maintain vigil over instigating news, speeches, rumours, social sites comments. Each officer and police station In-charge of the district has been directed to gather effectual information by maintaining constant vigil.

Effective force to be applied on violence by crowd - Effective force will be used against mob violence due to rumours and unlawful crowd as per the requirement to prevent incidents of violence. A stringent action will be taken against unlawful gathering under the Section -129 and other statutory provisions.

Directives available on Police Website - All the directives have been uploaded on the website of the Police Headquarters in order to prevent mob lynching incidents and to apprise the common man. Moreover, an action is also being taken to provide immediate assistance to victims of mob lynching incidents.
